Missions Work and the Great Commission: Answering God’s Call

Throughout history, God has called His people to go out into the world and share His love. The Great Commission, found in Matthew 28:19-20, commands us:

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

This divine calling is the foundation of missions work, a vital part of spreading the gospel and reaching those who have yet to hear the good news of Jesus. Whether through short-term missions, supporting the local church, or committing to the mission field, believers everywhere are invited to answer God’s call.

The Heart of Missions Work

Missions work isn’t about personal glory or checking off a box. It’s about obedience, love, and stepping into the unknown, trusting that God is leading the way. The early church set this example, going wherever the Holy Spirit led them to bring the hope of Jesus to those in need. Acts 1:8 declares:

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

This verse highlights the global scope of the Bible, from our own communities to the nations. Whether through local outreach or international missions, we are all part of God’s grand mission to redeem the world.

Serving Through Mosaic International

At Mosaic, we’re humbled and honored to play a small part in God’s bigger story. We believe missions work isn’t about any one organization, it’s about the collective body of Jesus, each of us serving in different ways to spread the gospel.

We simply aim to be faithful stewards of the opportunities God gives us, working alongside local churches, missionaries, and believers who are already doing the hard, beautiful work of discipleship.

Through both long-term and short-term missions, Mosaic seeks to:

  • Share the love of Jesus in tangible ways with communities that have never heard His name.

  • Walk alongside local churches to help strengthen and support their ministry efforts.

  • Provide education, humanitarian aid, and discipleship programs as a way of demonstrating Christ’s love in action.

  • Encourage and equip believers to step into their calling on the mission field.

One of the things we love most is seeing God work through local pastors and leaders. We don’t believe in bringing a one-size-fits-all approach to missions. Instead, we listen, learn, and partner with those already serving in their communities.

When we step back and let God lead, the results are always more beautiful than anything we could have orchestrated ourselves.

Why Short-Term Missions Matter

Some people wonder if short-term missions make a real difference. While long-term missions are essential, short-term trips can be powerful, both for those being served and for those serving. Here’s why they matter:

  • They open our eyes to God’s work beyond our own communities.

  • They challenge and grow our faith in unexpected ways.

  • They provide encouragement and practical support to local churches and missionaries.

  • They create lifelong connections and a deeper heart for missions.

James 1:27 reminds us:

"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."

Short-term missions aren’t about “fixing” problems or bringing Western solutions. They’re about showing up, loving people, and letting God do the real work of transformation.

How You Can Be Part of the Mission

If God is stirring your heart for missions work, there are so many ways to step into His calling:

  1. Pray – Missions work always starts with prayer. Pray for missionaries, for the people they serve, and for opportunities to share the gospel.

  2. Give – Financial support enables missionaries to stay in the field and continue their work. Learn more here.

  3. Go – Whether it’s a weeklong trip or a lifetime calling, stepping onto the mission field is an incredible act of obedience. Contact us.

  4. Support – Encourage and uplift those who are serving. Missions work is hard, and a simple act of support can make all the difference.

Romans 10:14-15 beautifully expresses the urgency of missions:

"How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!'"

Stepping Forward in Faith

Missions work is about being faithful to the call God places on our hearts. At Mosaic, we feel blessed to be part of this journey, but we know that the real work is God’s alone. He is the one changing hearts, opening doors, and drawing people to Himself.

Recently, Mosaic had the privilege of embarking on a missions trip to South Asia, where we witnessed God moving in powerful ways. We partnered with local churches, shared the gospel in unreached communities, and saw lives transformed by His love. It was an incredible reminder that God is at work in every corner of the world, calling people to Himself.

We invite you to experience a glimpse of what God is doing in South Asia through our latest video.

As we continue to walk in faith, let us hold onto the words of Isaiah 6:8:

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!"
